Accounting Specialist - Startup Phase

About the role

AIRoA, founded in 2024 and leading a national project supported by NEDO, is recruiting an Accounting Specialist to support its launch. You will handle day-to-day accounting, monthly and annual financial closes, and work with the field manager to build accounting workflows, approval routes and internal controls. The role is office-based, though remote work is possible.

Key responsibilities

• Journal entries, invoicing and payments, cash management, and accounts receivable and payable
• Monthly and annual financial closes, and coordination with tax accountants and auditors
• Project-based income and expense management and budget-to-actual variance analysis
• Building accounting workflows, approval routes and internal controls
• Future scope: departmental budgeting, revenue category management, and eventually managerial accounting and mid-to-long-term financial planning

Required profile

• Proactive experience managing monthly closes, including instructing other members; about 3 years of accounting experience is a guideline, not a strict requirement
• Ability to choose the right account titles for unexpected transactions
• Nissho Boki Level 2 equivalent accounting knowledge
• Native-level Japanese; English is not required now but willingness to learn it is welcomed
• Candidate should be curious, proactive and able to build systems independently in a fast-paced environment

Required skills

• Excel and Google Sheets for data aggregation and analysis
• Preferred: annual close experience, non-profit accounting, project-based accounting, cloud accounting software, and experience designing accounting workflows
