Business Development Manager – Japan

About the role

Alta Ares is seeking its first dedicated Business Development Manager for the Japanese market. You will lead the establishment of institutional and industrial relationships, build a commercial pipeline, and position Alta Ares as a trusted AI‑driven defence partner in Japan.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, qualify and develop opportunities with the Japan Ministry of Defence, ATLA, and the three Self‑Defense Force branches.
• Map capability gaps and procurement programmes that align with Alta Ares’ ISR, C‑UAS and AI autonomy solutions.
• Support proposal preparation, capability briefings and demonstration requests for Japanese institutional clients.
• Engage Japanese defence primes and industrial partners such as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, NEC and Fujitsu Defence to explore teaming, licensing or co‑production arrangements.
• Represent Alta Ares at key Japanese defence events and monitor policy, budget cycles and strategic priorities.

Required profile

• Proven experience in business development or sales within defence, aerospace or high‑tech sectors.
• Strong understanding of Japan’s defence procurement processes and industrial ecosystem.
• Excellent cross‑cultural communication skills and fluency in Japanese and English.
• Ability to work autonomously while aligning with senior leadership in Paris.

Required skills

• Knowledge of AI‑enabled defence technologies (ISR, C‑UAS, autonomous systems).
• Experience building relationships with government ministries and large industrial partners.
• Strategic market analysis and pipeline development.
