Customer Engineer III – Equipment Installation & Support

About the role

As a Customer Engineer III at Applied Materials, you will act as the primary liaison with customers in Japan, installing, maintaining, and upgrading advanced semiconductor and display equipment. The role combines hands‑on technical work with troubleshooting using digital analytics and requires close collaboration with internal teams to ensure optimal equipment performance.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and upgrade customer equipment.
• Apply troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, using company diagnostic tools and documentation to resolve complex equipment issues.
• Follow and generate documented procedures and published task plans.
• Communicate with customers and internal business units, leading projects as necessary.
• Train and mentor junior Field Service Engineers.
• Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Associate degree or comparable military technical training with field service experience.
• 7–10 years of experience in the semiconductor or equipment support industry.
• Advanced mechanical aptitude with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, and/or thermodynamics.
• Strong knowledge of hand tools and appropriate usage, including digital multimeters.
• Advanced knowledge of wafer processing parameters.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport for travel.
• Ability to meet on‑site safety, environmental, and COVID‑19 requirements.
