Director, Field Engineering

About the role

Databricks is looking for a Director, Field Engineering in Tokyo, Japan, to lead first-line managers and teams of pre-sales Solutions Architects focused on complex, strategic accounts and to drive expansion in Japan across manufacturing and automotive. The role partners with Sales to grow product consumption, coaches sales and pre-sales teams to work together, and reports to the Technical GM – Japan.

Key responsibilities

• Hire and manage first-line managers and a growing team of technical pre-sales Solutions Architects.
• Build a collaborative culture in a rapid-growth team, reflecting Databricks' customer-obsessed, team-oriented and diverse values.
• Increase the return on investment of sales involvement by ensuring the right technical coverage and engagement model.
• Build long-term, trust-based customer relationships, understand the local market and report on forces shaping account strategy.
• Champion a solution- and value-based selling motion across Field Engineering.
• Build the Databricks brand in Japan with Marketing and Sales.

Required profile

• Second-line leadership experience (manager of managers) leading teams of 20+ people.
• Proven success in high-growth enterprise software pre-sales, with senior-level tenure at a reputable software company and deep experience in the Japan market.
• Track record of closing large, complex transactions and scaling high-growth customers.
• Experience supporting complex strategic accounts generating $5M+ ARR.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Fluent Japanese required; business-level English strongly preferred.
