Firmware / Embedded Software Engineer (Robotics)

About the role

AIRoA develops humanoids, dual-arm robots, robotic hands and data-collection devices in-house while also using third-party hardware for research. This position builds a stable robotics foundation covering low-level robot layers to system integration, working with the Research, Robotics, Mechanical and Electrical teams. It goes beyond maintenance and troubleshooting.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and verify firmware and embedded software for humanoids, dual-arm robots, robotic hands and teleoperation systems
• Control motors, sensors, actuators and communication modules
• Develop control platforms using MCUs, SoCs, Linux-based embedded systems and RTOS
• Implement device communication via CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, USB, Ethernet and others
• Build logging and diagnostics for sensor values, joint angles, torque, current, temperature and error states
• Interface low-level control with ROS / ROS 2 and other robotics software
• Ensure stability and reproducibility for teleoperation, leader-follower systems and data collection pipelines
• Run real-robot tests, analyse failures and improve designs to prevent recurrence
• Integrate systems with Mechanical, Electrical, AI, Robotics and Cloud teams

Required profile

• Practical experience in embedded software or firmware development with C / C++
• Experience controlling real hardware such as sensors, actuators and motors
• Debugging real hardware with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and debuggers
• Experience analysing issues in systems combining electrical, mechanical and software parts
• Business-level Japanese (JLPT N2 or above)
