In-House Counsel (Legal & Compliance)

About the role

Roche Diagnostics K.K. is hiring an in-house counsel (社内弁護士) for its Legal & Compliance department in Tokyo. The role manages the company's legal and compliance risks and helps advance the business, taking part in process improvement, AI use and legal digital transformation. It is a permanent full-time position with a probation period of about three months, and future transfers to other business units are possible.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to legal consultations from business divisions and support contract drafting, review and negotiation, including complex, cross-border or litigious cases
• Work with external counsel and manage outsourced services
• Promote legal compliance and corporate ethics, run training and audits, and support internal whistleblowing investigations
• Help build internal systems such as a shared repository of judgment criteria to improve legal operations efficiency

Required profile

• Must hold a Japanese lawyer qualification (bengoshi)
• Native-level Japanese and business-level English (willingness to learn English is acceptable)
• Strong collaboration skills and a proactive, business-oriented mindset
• Preferred: 3 to 7 years of practical lawyer experience; industry experience and newcomers are both welcome

What we offer

• Base salary of 500,000 JPY per month, plus housing allowance and a fixed overtime allowance of 84,194 JPY per month
