Manager, Applied AI Architects

About the role

As the Manager of Applied AI Architects in Tokyo, you will lead a senior technical team that partners with OpenAI’s largest customers across Japan, acting as the “CTO of the book of business.” You will shape technical strategy, drive adoption of ChatGPT Enterprise, the OpenAI API, Codex and other AI solutions, and ensure measurable business impact.

Key responsibilities

• Hire, coach, and develop a high‑performing team of Applied AI Architects, fostering technical excellence and customer stewardship.
• Define and refine the operating model and technical account plans for AI solutions across Japan, aligning with sales and regional go‑to‑market priorities.
• Partner with Sales leadership and Account Directors to prioritize accounts, allocate resources, and establish clear technical strategies for critical engagements.
• Lead complex, multi‑threaded customer journeys from discovery through production, ensuring adoption, usage, and measurable impact.
• Mobilize cross‑functional specialists (Deployment Engineering, Product, Research, Security, Legal, etc.) to remove blockers and deliver cohesive experiences.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in customer‑facing technical roles such as solutions architecture, technical account leadership, AI deployment or consulting with large enterprises.
• 4+ years of people‑management experience building and leading high‑performing technical teams.
• Proven ability to communicate with C‑suite executives and translate technical vision into business outcomes.
• Experience guiding organizations from technical discovery to production adoption and measurable impact.

Required skills

• Deep technical acumen in modern AI systems, frontier models and agentic applications.
• Expertise in software and cloud architecture, APIs, data integration, identity, security and privacy.
• Knowledge of enterprise deployment, evaluation, reliability and governance of AI solutions.
