Process Support Engineer – Semiconductor (Kumamoto)

About the role

Applied Materials, a global leader in semiconductor equipment, is seeking a Process Support Engineer to join its Kumamoto, Japan team. The role involves on‑site support for advanced semiconductor process technologies and collaboration with customers to develop cutting‑edge manufacturing processes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide on‑site installation, diagnosis, service and repair of complex semiconductor equipment.
• Work closely with customers to develop and optimize processes for advanced chips, including hypothesis testing and design of experiments.
• Analyze experimental data using statistical methods and compile detailed technical reports.
• Troubleshoot complex process and equipment issues, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement solutions.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams and customers to build trust and achieve project goals.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in chemistry, physics, materials engineering, electrical engineering, optoelectronics or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in semiconductor process engineering or technical support (new graduates are also considered).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with hands‑on experience in process development or equipment troubleshooting.
• Fluent English (TOEIC 550+ required, 700+ preferred) and Mandarin; Japanese is a plus.
