Senior Medical Manager - Pipeline

About the role

Biogen is hiring a Senior Medical Manager (Pipeline) in Tokyo for its first launch in a new therapeutic area. The role builds the medical function from the ground up, shaping medical strategy, driving cross-functional activities and establishing Biogen's presence in an emerging field. It suits someone combining strong scientific expertise with entrepreneurial spirit and strategic vision.

Key responsibilities

• Identify unmet medical needs for each therapeutic area and develop local medical plans for pipeline assets, aligned with Global and BIR priorities, integrating with Clinical Development, Regulatory, Market Access and Commercial teams.
• Lead local medical input into evidence generation, including real-world evidence, registries and investigator-initiated research, and help shape Phase IV and post-approval evidence plans.
• Create scientific quality of study concepts, protocols and key medical documents, and disseminate clinical study data at medical congresses.
• Manage relationships with Key Medical Experts (KMEs), identify them, run compliant scientific exchanges, advisory boards and high-level engagements, and maintain a KME mapping and engagement plan.
• Provide scientific expertise and educational support to internal stakeholders, support medical training and disease awareness initiatives, and review scientific materials.

Required profile

• PhD in a scientific discipline or equivalent scientific expertise; MD, PhD or PharmD preferred.
• 3 years of experience in Medical Affairs, Clinical Development or related pharmaceutical roles.
• Proven experience in medical strategy, evidence generation and cross-functional collaboration.
• Fluent English; local language proficiency required as applicable.
• Strong scientific expertise in immunology or a relevant therapeutic area.
