Senior Software Engineer - Planning

About the role

Applied Intuition is seeking a Senior Software Engineer focused on planning to design and ship deterministic, safety-critical motion-planning systems for autonomous vehicles. You will work on fallback and minimal-risk maneuvers that keep the vehicle safe when perception degrades or the system encounters uncertainty.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement classical or machine-learning based motion planners for fallback and minimal-risk maneuvers.
• Build planners that operate reliably under degraded perception, partial observability, and system faults.
• Define and execute safe, deterministic vehicle motions such as controlled slow-downs, pull-overs, and safe stops.
• Use large-scale simulation and real-world data to evaluate planner behavior and guide parameter tuning.
• Develop metrics, analysis tools, and dashboards to monitor planner performance at scale.
• Collaborate with perception, prediction, controls, safety, and remote-assistance teams.
• Contribute to a reusable fallback platform used across trucking and other autonomy programs.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in motion planning for autonomous vehicles or robotics.
• Hands-on experience delivering safety-critical software in a fast-moving environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines.

Required skills

• Motion planning (classical and/or machine-learning approaches).
