Supplier Engineer – Technical Audit & Supplier Management

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Supplier Engineer (E4) in Tokyo to evaluate technical requirements, collaborate with new product development, and lead supplier audits and quality problem resolution.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate technical requirements of new and existing products and recommend materials to design engineering for cost, lead‑time and performance improvements.
• Work with New Product Development teams to ensure engineering drawing requirements are clear and communicated to suppliers.
• Participate in New Product Introduction teams to involve suppliers in specification development for manufacturability.
• Lead the supplier technical audit process, assess performance and capability, and drive continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Lead quality problem resolution, incident management, root‑cause analysis and systemic supplier corrective actions.
• Assist in cost planning by monitoring key cost drivers and supply‑market trends.

Required profile

• Demonstrates depth or breadth of expertise in a specialized engineering discipline.
• Interprets business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services.
• Leads functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk and complexity.
• Guides others to solve complex problems using sophisticated analytical judgment.
• Communicates difficult concepts and negotiates to gain stakeholder alignment.
