Assistant Finance Manager – Finance Operations

About the role

The Assistant Finance Manager will lead day‑to‑day finance operations for FT Japan and support finance activities across other Asia entities. Reporting to senior finance leadership, the role ensures accurate reporting, strong controls and compliance with local regulations and FT Group policies.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end close processes and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and review balance‑sheet reconciliations, perform variance analysis and monitor cash flow.
• Coordinate statutory reporting, external audits and corporate tax filings in Japan.
• Maintain financial controls, support internal and external audit activities and drive process automation.
• Act as primary finance contact for regional Accounting Services, resolving accounting issues and improving service delivery.
• Manage banking administration, payment processing and cash‑management activities.
• Lead finance transformation projects, implement new systems and standardise processes across APAC.
• Build relationships with finance, HR, legal, procurement and IT teams and provide finance guidance to stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field; CPA or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum five years of experience in accounting, financial reporting or control, preferably in a multinational environment.
• Business‑level proficiency in both Japanese and English.
• Strong analytical, communication and project‑management abilities.

Required skills

• Oracle or other ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Knowledge of IFRS.
• Understanding of Japanese statutory accounting and tax regulations.
