Backcountry Programs Manager – Seasonal (Niseko)

About the role

The Backcountry Programs Manager leads Rhythm Rides’ backcountry operations in Niseko for the 2026‑2027 season. Reporting to the Niseko Operations Manager, you will own daily guide operations, safety programs, and the performance of the backcountry department.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure safe, consistent, and effective daily backcountry operations.
• Act as the final local technical authority for terrain limits and safety decisions.
• Implement and manage the Niseko Guide Safety Program within the national framework.
• Deliver the national Guide Training Pathway locally, assessing guide performance.
• Lead, coach, and evaluate the Backcountry Programs Supervisor, Lead Guides, and Backcountry Guides.
• Plan staffing, rosters, and seasonal preparation within approved labour budgets.
• Coordinate cross‑departmental staff deployment and maintain clear operational authority.
• Monitor guest utilisation, labour efficiency, and departmental performance.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing outdoor or backcountry guide teams.
• Strong knowledge of backcountry safety standards and terrain assessment.
• Leadership ability to develop, coach, and evaluate staff.
• Excellent decision‑making under changing mountain conditions.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
