Customer Engineer I – Field Service

About the role

As a Customer Engineer I at Applied Materials you will act as the primary liaison with customers, installing, maintaining and upgrading cutting‑edge semiconductor and display equipment. You will use digital analytics and basic diagnostic techniques to troubleshoot issues and ensure optimal performance of complex systems.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Senior Field Service Engineers to install, maintain and upgrade customer equipment.
• Utilize digital analytics for troubleshooting and apply diagnostic techniques under guidance.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems.
• Coordinate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and high‑quality service.
• Complete additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Associate degree, military technical training, field service experience or trade certification.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn electrical and mechanical schematics.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving basic technical challenges.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain a passport for travel.

Required skills

• Digital analytics for equipment troubleshooting.
• Basic diagnostic techniques.
• Mechanical and electrical system knowledge (vacuum, plasma, hydraulic, gas).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Use of hand tools and digital multimeters.
• Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics and thermodynamics.
