Data Center Electrical Engineer

About the role

Anthropic is building the world’s most advanced AI compute infrastructure. As a Data Center Electrical Engineer based in Japan, you will lead the electrical design of new data‑center facilities across the APAC region, ensuring they can reliably power large‑scale machine‑learning accelerator clusters.

Key responsibilities

• Design and engineer the full electrical architecture from utility service entrance through to rack power, including MV substations, generators, UPS, switchgear, transformers and grounding systems.
• Develop and maintain reference designs, technical specifications and basis of design documents for critical power distribution.
• Review partner engineering submittals, perform short‑circuit, coordination, arc‑flash and load studies, and make decisions on topology, redundancy and equipment selection.
• Collaborate with hardware, compute and supply‑chain teams to translate accelerator requirements into electrical criteria and qualify regional vendors.
• Act as the on‑the‑ground subject‑matter expert with local utilities, regulatory agencies and contractors in Japan, Korea, Australia and other APAC markets.

Required profile

• Extensive experience designing mission‑critical electrical systems for large data‑center or industrial facilities.
• Deep knowledge of APAC electrical codes, standards and utility practices.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional projects and make trade‑offs when standard solutions do not apply.
• Strong analytical judgment and excellent communication with internal and external stakeholders.
