Regional Director – Asia and the Pacific

About the role

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) is seeking a senior leader to head its Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) in Fukuoka. This Fixed‑Term Limited position provides strategic direction for the implementation of UN‑Habitat’s Strategic Plan 2026‑2029 across the region, aligning global priorities with local actions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of the regional annual work programme, ensuring alignment with UN‑Habitat’s core mandates of adequate housing, land and basic services.
• Represent UN‑Habitat at high‑level regional forums, United Nations platforms, and with member‑state governments to promote the New Urban Agenda.
• Mobilise resources and build strategic partnerships with multilateral development banks, private sector, academia and civil society to secure diversified funding.
• Oversee emergency response initiatives, data‑driven decision‑making, and knowledge‑exchange activities to strengthen regional resilience.
• Manage the office’s administration, personnel, procurement and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with headquarters requirements.
