Senior Consulting Engineer (Japan)

About the role

We are expanding our Support Services team at ClickHouse and are looking for a Senior Consulting Engineer to provide consultative support to enterprise customers in Japan. The role blends hands‑on engineering, development assistance, and high‑tier support, working directly with strategic customers and handling L1‑L3 cases.

Key responsibilities

• Serve on customer projects focusing on design, architecture, integration, implementation and documentation, including research, benchmarking, performance testing and tooling.
• Provide case‑initiated consultative support for strategic users, assisting with onboarding, production launches, migrations and proof‑of‑concepts, while also handling L1‑L3 support cases.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering and Sales to influence the product roadmap and develop documentation, knowledge‑base articles and reference architectures.
• Participate in hiring, mentoring and on‑call duties, including up to 35% regional onsite travel.

Required profile

• 5+ years experience in professional services, support, technical account management, engineering/SRE or project management.
• 5+ years experience with scalable, fault‑tolerant distributed database management systems.
• Proven ability to lead large‑scope technical projects with multiple engineers.

Required skills

• Database technologies (DBMS, OLAP)
• Public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and IaaS (e.g., EC2)
• Linux/Unix, Kubernetes, system or network administration
• Big data pipelines (Kafka, Kinesis, Spark, RabbitMQ)
• Experience with ClickHouse and open‑source technologies
