Service Project Manager

About the role

HITACHI ENERGY's Grid Integration business unit, which has delivered more than 4,000 projects over 15 years, is looking for a Service Project Manager in Tokyo. The portfolio covers transmission and substation applications such as HVDC, substations, FACTS, grid and power quality solutions (including offshore wind connections) and semiconductors, as well as power consulting for renewables, transmission and distribution and e-mobility. The role leads service and maintenance projects and works closely with the Operations Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the project team, set the approach for service, maintenance and troubleshooting, oversee factory interface and site work planning, and control internal and external resources to meet project goals.
• Define project and task plans covering scope, financial plans, schedules and risk management plans.
• Ensure execution follows industry best practice and GI-GPQSS PES Service policies, monitor progress and critical paths, report deviations to the Operations Manager, and run resource optimization measures.
• Produce regular progress reports, productivity data and project reviews, and track costs, expenses and cash flow.
• Manage invoice requests against payment milestones, identify and manage project risks, and capture lessons learned.
• Drive formal project closure, acceptance, contract close-out and customer acknowledgement, and ensure compliance with external and internal regulations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or 5 years' experience in a similar role; project management certification such as PMP preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, e.g. Associate Project Manager, Project Manager, Project Coordinator or Project Engineer.
• Experience managing high-voltage substation projects is an advantage.
• Business-level fluency in both Japanese and English.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel.
• Scheduling projects with recognized project scheduling tools.
• Ability to organize, influence and coordinate stakeholders.
