Service Robot System Engineer

About the role

The AI Robot Association is hiring a Service Robot System Engineer for its Development Division. The role designs service robot systems for real-world environments such as homes, retail stores and logistics sites, and runs proof-of-concept studies and field experiments. It is part of a major national project supported by a 20.5 billion yen investment from NEDO.

Key responsibilities

• Design service robot systems for real-world environments (homes, retail shops, logistics sites).
• Plan and execute proof-of-concept studies and field experiments in service robotics.
• Select and improve the robot hardware used in the project.

Required profile

• M.S. in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary research and engineering teams.
• Preferred: Ph.D. or M.S. with 3+ years of equivalent industry or research experience, publications in top robotics venues (RSS, CoRL, ICRA, IROS, TRO, IJRR), and experience in complex hardware systems such as automotive or consumer electronics.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with physical robotic platforms (mobile robots, manipulators such as UR5, Franka Emika, HSR, or humanoids).
• Control of real robots with ROS / ROS2, including full-stack integration and deployment.
• Strong C++ and Python, able to write production-level code and integrate systems.
• Preferred: robotic simulators (Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, PyBullet), Sim2Real transfer and VLA model integration, and leadership experience mentoring junior engineers.
