Accountant – Tokyo

About the role

Springer Nature is seeking a detail‑oriented Accountant to join its Tokyo finance team. The role supports day‑to‑day accounting operations, ensures the integrity of the general ledger, and collaborates with both local and regional finance colleagues.

Key responsibilities

• Process expense claims and vendor invoices in a compliant and efficient manner.
• Maintain and reconcile selected balance‑sheet accounts, ensuring timely month‑end and year‑end close.
• Prepare journal entries, perform account reconciliations, and uphold general ledger integrity.
• Manage the corporate credit‑card program, including reconciliation and policy compliance.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams in Tokyo and regional finance teams on finance projects and process improvements.
• Identify accounting issues and propose proactive improvements.
• Perform ad‑hoc accounting tasks as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in accounting or finance operations, including month‑end close.
• Japanese Nissho Bookkeeping Certification (Level 2) preferred; CPA qualification a plus.
• Familiarity with internal control frameworks.
• Self‑starter with a positive, collaborative attitude.

Required skills

• Solid understanding of IFRS or JGAAP accounting standards.
• Business‑level proficiency in English and native‑level Japanese.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Knowledge of Japanese consumption tax.
• Experience with month‑end close processes and corporate credit‑card reconciliation.
