Compute Country Lead – Japan

About the role

Anthropic is expanding its global compute capacity and seeks a Compute Country Lead for Japan. The leader will own the end‑to‑end strategy for bringing gigawatts of AI compute online, coordinating site selection, leasing, energy, financing, government relations, construction and operations.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the full compute build‑out roadmap in Japan, from site identification to operational launch.
• Lead the in‑country cross‑functional team, ensuring alignment across leasing, financing, energy procurement, policy, community engagement, construction and operations.
• Represent Anthropic with Japanese government agencies, utilities, energy providers and industry groups to secure sites, power agreements and regulatory approvals.
• Track progress, surface risks and maintain a transparent view of parallel workstreams as the compute footprint scales.
• Translate Anthropic’s global compute priorities into actions that fit Japan’s regulatory, political and market environment.

Required profile

• Japanese national with established relationships in government and the energy sector (strongly preferred).
• Proven ability to lead and coordinate cross‑functional teams without direct line authority.
• Structured thinker who can quickly learn new domains and dive deep.
• Excellent communicator comfortable engaging senior officials and industry stakeholders.
• Highly organized and detail‑oriented.
