Senior Data Scientist

About the role

Royal Canin is expanding its Data & Analytics team to accelerate its transformation into a data-powered business, adding statistical modelling, advanced analytics and machine learning. As a Senior Data Scientist you will help product squads turn data into insights that solve complex business problems, working with other Data Scientists, Engineers and Product specialists to build diagnostic and predictive models.

Key responsibilities

• Apply statistical modelling and machine learning to build predictive and prescriptive models for complex business problems.
• Work mainly with early-life MVPs and prototypes, developing them iteratively into scalable analytics products.
• Run exploratory data analysis to find trends and patterns, then develop, test, validate and deploy robust analytical models.
• Partner with Product Managers and Data Engineers so that EDA work is both value-driving and technically feasible.
• Present results and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical audiences using data visualizations and storytelling.
• Test and validate models rigorously, and review and debug the work of other Data Scientists.

Required profile

• 4-7 years of experience in an applied data science role, ideally in CPG, consumer products, retail, telecom or financial services.
• Bilingual: fluent Japanese and English, able to collaborate across cultures and communicate clearly in both languages.
• Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with attention to data quality and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, managing several priorities and meeting deadlines.
• Academic or self-taught background in data science; preferred: a bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science or a related field, and professional data science accreditation.

Required skills

• Regression/GLM, Random Forest, boosting, deep learning, text mining and social network analysis; optimization experience a plus.
• Python (NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and (Py)Spark.
• Data visualization with matplotlib, Power BI, React and Dash.
• SQL/Hive and big data platforms such as Hadoop and Apache Spark.
