Senior Sales & Solutions Engineer – Japan
Coursera
Job description
About the role
Coursera and Udemy are hiring a Senior Sales & Solutions Engineer focused on the Japan market. This is not a typical pre-sales role: it suits someone who genuinely loves technology and can make its excitement contagious in a boardroom, a product demo or over dinner in Tokyo. The role covers the full customer journey, from early-stage pipeline through to deepening relationships with existing customers, and requires cultural fluency and business acumen for the Japanese market. It is a hybrid position requiring two days per week in the office at the nearest hub.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with the Japan sales team to support active opportunities from first demo through to close, and lead tailored product demonstrations.
- Answer technical queries, RFPs and security questionnaires, and run proof-of-concept engagements.
- Articulate ROI, use cases and competitive differentiation so it lands with Japanese buyers.
- Build trusted relationships with existing customers, run business reviews, product updates and enablement sessions, and identify expansion opportunities with the account team.
- Act as the voice of the Japanese customer internally, capturing feedback and surfacing product gaps.
- Represent the company at Japanese tech conferences and events, and create and deliver presentations, webinars and product content for a Japanese audience.
- Build relationships with local partners, communities and influencers, and collaborate with marketing to localise content and campaigns.
- Bridge the Japan market with global product, engineering and marketing teams, and feed structured market feedback into the regional product roadmap.
Required profile
- 6-8 years of experience in pre-sales, solutions engineering, technical consulting or customer success within a SaaS or cloud environment.
- Track record of supporting complex sales cycles and contributing to closed business.
- Demonstrated experience with enterprise or mid-market customers in Japan.
- Experience working with or for a global technology company, balancing local market needs with a distributed team.
- Natural understanding of Japanese business culture (nemawashi, ringi, reading the room).
Required skills
- Familiarity with SaaS concepts, cloud infrastructure, APIs and integration patterns, enough to hold your own with technical stakeholders.
- Clear, confident communication, from large presentations to one-on-one explanations.
