Vice President - Software Engineer, Algorithmic Trading

About the role

Barclays is looking for a Vice President Software Engineer to join its technology team responsible for the Barclays Equities Cash Algorithmic Trading Platform in Tokyo. The successful candidate designs and implements all components of the platform, with a focus on algorithmic trading, smart order routing and low-latency transaction processing. The role is permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enhance the algorithmic trading and smart order routing platforms for cash equities across Asian markets.
• Deliver zero-defect versions of the platform and perform second-line support and knowledge transfer to production support teams.
• Help reduce technical debt and follow Barclays development standards and the Agile model.
• Manage stakeholder expectations, communicate with development and support teams, and evaluate risks against firm timelines.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, the Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal policies.
• As a Vice President, set strategy, plan resources and budgets, and either lead a team or act as a subject matter expert guiding technical direction.

Required profile

• 5 years of algorithmic trading experience in top-tier investment banks.
• Experience in high-volume, low-latency environments.
• Competence in software development with C++ and Java on Linux, including performance profiling.
• Experience with connectivity solutions and the FIX protocol, and with multithreaded systems and thread synchronization.
• Good written and verbal communication, problem-solving and analytical skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced, time-critical team.
