Wastewater Technician

About the role

Amentum is hiring a full-time Wastewater Technician to provide operational mission support on a contract for the US Department of Defense, based in Japan at a customer location aboard MCAS Iwakuni, supporting a Base Operations & Support contract with the DoD/Navy-Marine Corps. The position involves operating and maintaining two activated sludge wastewater plants, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is a non-hybrid, in-person role with a 24/7 duty phone rotation.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain two activated sludge wastewater plants safely and efficiently
• Custodianship of work areas and management of tools, equipment and spare parts
• Repair, maintenance, installation and modernization of wastewater buildings and grounds
• Test systems to ensure they meet specifications and performance requirements
• Collect, analyse and report data, and recommend corrective actions
• Advise the supervisor on progress and material and labour needs, and coordinate with other departments
• Be available for extended shifts during emergencies and natural disasters

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED, or equivalent; trade-related program completion preferred
• Experience in municipal water or wastewater treatment and facilities preventive maintenance preferred
• Ability to read design drawings and specifications, and to lift and move equipment safely
• Valid passport with at least 12 months remaining; in-country applicants must hold their own visa sponsorship or residency
• Must obtain and maintain a Japanese driver's licence (or SOFA licence) within 90 days of hire and be able to drive a company vehicle
• SOFA dependents must obtain the approved request to engage in commercial activity in Japan and contractor identification before starting work

Required skills

• English as primary language; Japanese speaking, reading and writing preferred, including technical manuals and diagrams
• Wastewater-related certification or equivalent experience preferred (e.g. sewage treatment engineer, aeration tank technician, electrical works engineer)
• Teamwork, organisation, time management and communication skills
