APAC NC Contract Manager

About the role

HITACHI ENERGY JAPAN, LTD., within its Grid Automation business unit, is looking for an APAC NC Contract Manager in Tokyo. The role ensures that the portfolio of contracts follows contract and claim management methodologies and protects Hitachi Energy's interests throughout the project lifecycle, working closely with the Tender and Execution teams.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure contracts follow internal procedures and terms, and coordinate with in-house experts on insurance, trade compliance and HSE policies
• Review and comment on commercial and technical tender terms, and develop contract strategy covering risks, pricing, scope and schedule
• Support drafting of Purchase Orders and subcontracts so they contain terms that protect Hitachi Energy, including flow-down of main contract terms
• Identify the contract baseline and potential risks, and use project management tools to track payments, claims, variation orders, warranties and guarantees
• Assess scope creep, qualify additional time and compensation, and defend contractual interests against customers and suppliers
• Work with Legal on negotiation strategy, dispute resolution, litigation and arbitration, and report major claims
• Analyse prime contracts for ambiguities, omissions and conflicts, and help draft, negotiate and finalise agreements
• Develop risk mitigation and opportunity plans with the Project Manager, Sales Manager or FES Manager
• Handle large and complex projects of around 50 million USD per year in a matrix environment

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or law
• 8-10 years of contracts management experience in an engineering, procurement and construction environment
• Fluent business-level Japanese and English
• Compliance with external and internal regulations, procedures and guidelines

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Word and Excel
• Demonstrated negotiation skills
• Knowledge of software-related (SaaS) and FIDIC contracts (Yellow, Orange, Red books) is an advantage
