Business Development Director (fluent Japanese)

About the role

We are an expanding British consulting firm looking for a Business Development Director to lead our growth in the Japanese market. Reporting directly to the global head, you will shape and execute strategies that secure new clients and drive revenue across innovation, investment and technology projects.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, engage and sign up new Japanese corporate clients.
• Develop and support the execution of global innovation and investment strategies.
• Build relationships with top Japanese corporates and understand their overseas growth plans.
• Present market research, innovation services and post‑sale support to clients.
• Create comprehensive proposals and close deals to meet sales targets.
• Lead and mentor a local business development team.

Required profile

• 10+ years of B2B sales experience, preferably in consulting or technology sectors.
• Proven team‑management experience.
• Business‑level fluency in English and Japanese.
• Deep knowledge of the Japanese business ecosystem, including innovation, venture capital and tech environments.
• Interest in technology, sustainability and international business.

Required skills

• Expertise in developing and managing professional relationships.
• Ability to navigate complex corporate structures.
• Experience building high‑value pipelines and complex proposals.
