Japan Commercial Director – Gaming & Trading Cards

About the role

As the Japan Commercial Director for Wizards of the Coast, you will lead the company’s local commercial operations, driving revenue growth, brand visibility, and community engagement for iconic franchises such as Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. This senior, bilingual role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on management of sales, trade marketing, organized play, and partnership initiatives across the Japanese market.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute go‑to‑market strategies that meet sales, profitability and growth targets.
• Manage relationships with distributors, retailers and e‑commerce platforms to maximise product availability and sell‑through.
• Lead, mentor and performance‑manage a high‑performing sales, marketing and operations team.
• Identify new business opportunities, retail expansion concepts and innovative partnership models.
• Analyse market trends and customer feedback to shape product development and marketing plans.
• Collaborate with global supply‑chain, finance and cross‑functional teams to forecast demand and plan sales.

Required profile

• 10+ years of sales and marketing leadership experience in entertainment, TCG, gaming or consumer products.
• Deep understanding of Japanese retail, distribution and e‑commerce channels.
• Proven ability to build and lead high‑performing teams.
• Fluent in Japanese and English (business‑level written and spoken).
• Strong analytical, planning and communication capabilities.
