Manager III, Customer Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials seeks a Manager III, Customer Engineer to lead the customer engineering team in Kitakami, Japan. The role is responsible for building strong customer relationships, overseeing district engineers, and ensuring successful system installations and support.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with all relevant customers in the district, conducting regular visits.
• Manage, coach, and direct customer engineers, handling salary planning, career development, and performance appraisals.
• Serve as the primary interface with Product Divisions for technical support, training, spares, and reliability.
• Lead escalation procedures, RMA processes, and system installation planning, including pre‑facility and start‑up meetings.
• Prepare financial forecasts, monitor cost efficiency, and report district financial results.
• Oversee the CSD Award Program, mentor program for new engineers, and ensure accurate tracking of engineer hours.

Required profile

• Proven ability to lead and develop engineering teams, providing clear direction and performance feedback.
• Strong analytical skills to assess financial results, cost efficiency, and operational metrics.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for presenting technical information and gaining cooperation across functions.
