Medical Affairs Oncology Medical Advisor (M.D.)

About the role

The Medical Advisor will lead the development and execution of Country Medical Affairs Plans (CMAP) for oncology therapeutic areas in Japan. Reporting to the Executive Director, the role combines scientific leadership, cross‑functional collaboration and engagement with external experts to shape medical strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement CMAPs aligned with franchise strategy and global medical plans.
• Lead the execution of CMAPs together with Medical Science Liaisons, Scientific Content and Medical Information teams.
• Provide scientific insights and feedback to global and local teams, influencing global medical strategy.
• Oversee field engagement activities, including scientific insight collection by MSLs.
• Organize and chair advisory board meetings and other medical programs to integrate expert opinions.
• Collaborate with global and regional teams on advisory boards and medical programs.
• Identify unmet educational needs and design country‑specific medical education initiatives.
• Gather and analyse medical information on early pipeline products and deliver strategic inputs.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of clinical or research experience as a physician in the healthcare sector.
• Proven leadership experience managing disease‑area teams.
• Strong understanding of oncology disease area, treatment landscape and regulatory environment in Japan.
• Ability to foster collaboration across functions and engage with external scientific leaders.
• Fluent English communication skills (spoken and written) and ability to adapt global strategies to local context.
• Knowledge of Japanese compliance rules and codes governing pharmaceutical activities.
