MPL Project Manager – Project Cargo Japan

About the role

Maersk's Project Logistics team manages end-to-end project cargo across ocean, air and land modes, covering standard, out-of-gauge and sensitive materials in line with customer schedules. As an MPL Project Manager for Project Cargo Japan, you will lead and optimise local operational processes, manage resources and act as a bridge between local operations and senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and manage local project logistics operations across the full MPL product family and all transport modes to meet customer deliverables, contractual obligations and operational KPIs.
• Lead operational excellence and continuous improvement to optimise cost, service quality and efficiency.
• Collaborate with Commercial, QHSE, Business Development and Procurement to develop customer solutions.
• Establish and track success metrics for MPL projects, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence and customer satisfaction.
• Serve as the main point of contact during customer solution implementation and onboarding of new Maersk products.
• Identify and drive value-added solutions for the customer and Maersk, and build data-driven client relationships.
• Support customer and vendor issue resolution proactively, and represent Maersk on-site when needed for project delivery, vendor onboarding and QHSE compliance.
• Prioritise tasks and manage responsibilities autonomously while holding the wider team accountable for customer programme outcomes.

Required profile

• At least 3-5 years of experience in a freight forwarding or logistics company.
• In-depth knowledge of the Japan logistics market, including local vendors.
• Proven experience in project cargo handling and execution.
• Fluent in Japanese and English (verbal and written).
• Willing to travel to ports to supervise project cargos.
• Knowledge of CargoWise is an advantage.
