SMB Account Manager – Drive Growth for Small Business

About the role

The Account Management team is seeking a motivated professional to own a portfolio of small and medium‑sized business customers on Square’s platform. You will act as both advisor and problem‑solver, helping merchants retain, grow, and unlock new product opportunities.

Key responsibilities

• Own a multi‑million‑dollar portfolio of SMB merchants, setting strategy and being accountable for all performance metrics.
• Develop deep business understanding to identify churn risk early and deploy precise retention strategies.
• Manage a high‑velocity pipeline, closing upsell, cross‑sell, and contract adoption opportunities with disciplined deal tracking.
• Build trusted relationships with business owners, becoming the first point of contact for critical issues.
• Partner cross‑functionally with Sales, Support, Product, and Analytics to solve problems structurally and prevent recurrence.

Required profile

• 5+ years in account management, sales, or a client‑facing role with proven retention and revenue results.
• Experience handling a dynamic, high‑volume book and closing both retention and growth opportunities.
• Strong negotiation skills and comfort with difficult conversations while preserving relationships.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in both Japanese (native) and English (business level).
• Solid financial and analytical abilities to use data for decision‑making and opportunity sizing.
