Unpaid Volunteer - Strategy Officers (Principal / Senior / Officer)

About the role

The Digital Technology Institute for Development (DTID) is an international non-profit advancing the responsible use of AI, blockchain and emerging digital technologies for sustainable development. It is seeking analytical, commercially aware and solutions-focused professionals to join its Strategy function in the Director-General's Office as Principal, Senior or Strategy Officers. The role is home-based and remote, reporting to the Strategy Director or Director-General's Office, and includes a strong business development and partnership component.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research and analysis to support strategic planning and institutional development.
• Assess organisational, programme, partnership and business-development opportunities.
• Develop strategic proposals, concept notes, business cases and implementation plans.
• Support sponsorship, partnership, government and institutional engagement proposals.
• Analyse organisational challenges and give evidence-based recommendations; evaluate short-, medium- and long-term initiatives.
• Prepare discussion papers, executive briefings, presentations and strategy reports.
• Work with divisions to turn recommendations into implementation plans and monitor initiatives.
• Identify partnership opportunities with governments, international organisations, foundations, research institutions and companies.
• Principal level: lead complex strategy and business-development assignments, advise senior leadership, coordinate teams and mentor Senior and Strategy Officers.
• Senior level: run strategy and business-development workstreams, prepare executive reports and guide Strategy Officers.
• Officer level: carry out desk research, maintain opportunity and partnership trackers and support meetings and stakeholder engagements.

Required profile

• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with good research and briefing skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and deadlines, and collaborate across organisational boundaries in a remote setting.
• Proactive, commercially aware and solutions-focused mindset.
• Senior appointments require leadership, strategic judgement and influencing capability.

Required skills

• Knowledge of corporate strategy, management consulting, business development, partnerships, proposal and business-case development, and project management.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.
• Advantageous: climate change, sustainability, climate finance, AI, blockchain and emerging digital technologies.
