Assistant Vice President, Japan Securities Middle Office

About the role

Barclays is hiring an Assistant Vice President for its Japan Securities Middle Office in Tokyo, within the Markets post-trade area of Banking Operations. The role supports day-to-day service delivery and SLAs for the APAC Cash Equities business, while supporting the expansion of high-touch sales trading activity in Japan. It is described as critical to avoiding client detriment, complaints, missed SLAs and regulatory risk.

Key responsibilities

• Support business areas with day-to-day processing, reviewing, reporting, trading and issue resolution.
• Collaborate with teams across the bank to align and integrate operational processes.
• Identify areas for improvement and recommend improvements in operational processes.
• Develop and implement operational procedures and controls to mitigate risks and maintain efficiency.
• Develop reports and presentations on operational performance and share findings with senior stakeholders.
• Identify industry trends and developments to apply best practice in banking operations.
• Take part in projects and initiatives to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Required profile

• Significant Middle Office or Operations experience supporting bond or fixed-income trading in a major financial institution.
• Strong knowledge of Japan financial markets and the operational and control environment of an onshore securities business.
• Proven change and transformation delivery experience, including automation, process simplification or platform implementation.
• Professional fluency in Japanese and English.
• Legal right to work in Japan; applicants holding a Barclays-sponsored visa or requiring sponsorship must declare this.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of trade capture, confirmation, settlement, reconciliations, positions, cash, reference data and downstream reporting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills across multiple data sources.
• Effective stakeholder management and communication, including explaining complex matters to senior audiences.
