Regional Business Leader - Japan

About the role

We are seeking a senior executive to lead the Japan operations of an international life‑sciences organization. Reporting to global leadership, you will drive strategic business development, operational excellence, and sustainable growth across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the overall business strategy and operational performance for Japan.
• Align commercial, scientific, and project‑management functions to improve collaboration and accelerate customer response.
• Partner with international headquarters and regional stakeholders to maximize resources and ensure seamless execution.
• Provide strategic leadership to laboratory and operational teams, ensuring high‑quality project delivery and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee annual business planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and performance monitoring.
• Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives to boost efficiency and customer satisfaction.
• Lead commercial strategy, identify new opportunities, and strengthen relationships with key clients and partners.
• Coach and develop senior managers, building a high‑performing leadership team.
• Monitor KPIs, financial metrics, and operational reviews, implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Represent the organization with customers, partners, and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Life Sciences or related field; advanced degree advantageous.
• 8‑10+ years of leadership experience in pharma, CDMO, CRO, chemical or broader life‑sciences industry.
• Proven track record of delivering business growth and managing complex customer programs.
• Experience in multinational or matrix organizations with regional and global stakeholders.
• Strong strategic planning, market development, and customer‑relationship management skills.
• Solid financial acumen with experience managing budgets and forecasts.
