Solution Specialist – Nature Portfolio (Japan)

About the role

Springer Nature is seeking a Solution Specialist for its Nature Portfolio in Japan. The role supports the Japanese sales team by showcasing the value of Nature journals to academic and government customers, generating new business opportunities and assisting with large renewals. It is a non‑direct sales position focused on strategic support and proposal development.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a deep understanding of the Nature Portfolio journals and their relevance to specific research areas.
• Create target lists of prospective academic and government institutions and identify content gaps for upsell opportunities.
• Collaborate with sales representatives to design strategic approaches and sales tactics for key customers.
• Prepare and present comprehensive customer assessments, journal recommendations, and tailored pricing options, including cost‑benefit and ROI analyses.
• Produce and maintain accurate sales and pipeline reports for the region.
• Support the VP of Institutional Sales for Japan, Southeast Asia and Oceania in reporting and pipeline management.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of the Nature Portfolio and its subject‑area coverage.
• Experience supporting sales teams in an academic or research publishing environment.
• Ability to analyse customer needs, develop proposals and present recommendations to diverse stakeholders.
• Analytical skills for pricing comparisons, break‑even calculations and ROI assessments.
• Excellent coordination skills to ensure up‑to‑date sales pipelines and reporting.
