Compliance Advisory Officer

About the role

Adyen is seeking a Compliance Advisory Officer for its Tokyo office to support the Global Compliance Advisory & Oversight function. You will provide strategic and pragmatic compliance advice to internal teams and customers, helping the company scale its operations while managing risk.

Key responsibilities

• Represent Compliance to commercial and operational teams, facilitating communication with specialized Compliance, Regulatory, Legal and Risk functions and delivering trainings.
• Provide ad‑hoc compliance advice, deconstruct complex challenges and support solution development aligned with Adyen’s strategic objectives and risk appetite.
• Perform and coordinate Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) risk assessments, gathering expertise across functions to advise senior management on customer acceptance.
• Strengthen and scale Adyen’s compliance framework and identify opportunities to leverage data and technology for more efficient processes.

Required profile

• 7+ years in a second‑line compliance role at a payment service provider, fintech or financial institution.
• Deep knowledge of payment/e‑money regulatory and licensing regimes, AML/CFT risks and card scheme rules.
• Analytical thinker able to break down complex compliance issues and communicate clearly to diverse stakeholders.
• Strong initiative, self‑motivation and ability to manage multiple complex topics simultaneously.
• Fluent in Japanese and English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Regulatory compliance expertise (payment services, e‑money, AML/CFT).
• Understanding of card scheme definitions and rules.
• Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) assessment experience.
