Head of Medical Affairs, Rare Bone & Endocrine Disorders, Rare Tumours

About the role

Alexion Japan is looking for a Head of Medical Affairs for its Rare Bone & Endocrine Disorders and Rare Tumours portfolio. The role provides strategic leadership of the assigned therapeutic area, including in-line and pipeline assets, and works with Global, Regional and Japan Medical Affairs stakeholders to advance the evidence-based standard of care.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement local medical strategies and tactical plans across assets, indications, lifecycle stages and evidence-generation priorities, working closely with regions and countries
• Ensure the quality of medical strategies in Japan in line with Alexion's corporate and brand strategies, and account for day-to-day operations
• Build local evidence and trust with external experts, healthcare professionals, patient communities and internal stakeholders
• Represent Japan Medical Affairs at Global and Japan Product Teams, and lead the medical organization through continuous improvement, resource planning, budget management and leadership
• Align the organization's strategy with global and regional medical strategies and enterprise priorities
• Handle HR activities such as talent development, evaluation and recruitment, and partner with Commercial, Market Access, Clinical Development, Regulatory and Safety
• Contribute to the Medical Affairs Leadership Team (MALT) and escalate key issues to the Medical Leadership Team or JLC

Required profile

• MD, PhD or PharmD degree or equivalent
• 5+ years of experience in a Global or International Medical Affairs function
• Proven ability to manage budgets and resources, and to build partnerships between HQ and affiliates
• Travel of up to 25%

Required skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Experience in a matrixed, cross-functional environment, including remotely
• Budget and resource management, business acumen, negotiation and problem-solving skills
