Manager, Field Engineering (Japan Pre-Sales)

About the role

Databricks is looking for a Manager, Field Engineering to lead a diverse team of technical pre-sales Solutions Architects covering the Japan region. The role sits at the intersection of technology and business, guiding the team to design impactful solutions and drive growth through collaboration and innovation. It reports to the Technical GM – Japan.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and support a high-performing, inclusive pre-sales team, fostering belonging, continuous learning and psychological safety.
• Work closely with Sales and other teams to identify opportunities and deliver data-driven, value-focused solutions.
• Establish best practices that improve team efficiency, collaboration and business impact.
• Build trusted relationships with customers and partners, acting as a strategic advisor in their digital transformation journey.
• Partner with Marketing, Sales, Services and other cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless customer experience.
• Represent Databricks as part of the regional leadership team.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading or managing technical teams in Big Data, Cloud or SaaS environments, or equivalent hands-on engineering or consulting experience.
• Track record of coaching and developing diverse, high-performing teams.
• Strong collaboration skills with Sales, Marketing and other cross-functional leaders.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Fluent Japanese required; business-level English strongly preferred.

Required skills

• Technical background in Data Engineering, Databases or Data Science (consulting or customer-facing experience preferred).
• Enthusiasm for data, AI and cloud technologies and the ability to connect them to real business outcomes.
