Process Support Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Process Support Engineer to join its Kumamoto site, providing on‑site support for advanced semiconductor process technologies at the JASM customer location. The role involves hands‑on equipment work, process development and close collaboration with customers to enable cutting‑edge chip manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Perform on‑site installations, system diagnostics, service and repair of complex semiconductor equipment.
• Develop and execute hypothesis experiments and design‑of‑experiments (DOE) to advance customer processes.
• Analyze experimental data using statistical methods and produce detailed technical reports.
• Troubleshoot and resolve root‑cause issues across multiple process areas such as metal deposition, dielectric deposition, ALD, etch, epitaxy, CMP, ion implantation and process diagnostics.
• Communicate effectively with internal teams and customers to build trust and achieve project goals.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in chemistry, physics, materials engineering, electrical engineering, optoelectronics or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in semiconductor process engineering or technical support (new graduates also considered).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with hands‑on equipment troubleshooting experience.
• Fluent English (TOEIC 550+; 700+ preferred) and Mandarin; Japanese is a plus.

Required skills

• Knowledge of metal deposition (MDP), dielectric deposition (DDP), atomic layer deposition (ALD), etch, front‑end process (FEP), epitaxy (EPI), chemical mechanical planarization (CMP), ion implantation (IMP) and process diagnostics & control (PDC).
• Experience designing experiments (DOE) and applying statistical analysis.
• Proficiency with equipment troubleshooting and repair.
