Summer Trading and Research Internship (Tokyo)

About the role

Capula Investment Management, a global hedge fund with over $35 billion in assets, is recruiting for its 2027 Trading and Research summer internship in Tokyo. The programme lasts ten weeks, from June to August, and starts with an orientation week at the London headquarters covering financial markets training, a trading simulation game, presentations by senior managers and networking events. Interns are matched with a specific team and work alongside experienced traders on projects leading to trading decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Work closely with traders, portfolio managers and quantitative researchers on defined projects leading directly to trading decisions
• Receive training in financial modelling, analysis, research methods and trading strategies
• Evaluate market conditions and economic data
• Help develop research ideas supporting the desk's trading strategies
• Develop tools and reports to aid trade analysis and identification of trades

Required profile

• Student due to graduate in 2027 or 2028 with a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in economics, finance or a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, physics, computer science or engineering
• Demonstrable interest in financial markets and trading; no prior finance experience required
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Fluency in both English and Japanese

Required skills

• Outstanding quantitative and analytical skills
• Python and Excel experience (C++, R and Java are beneficial but not essential)
