Customer Engineer I – ETCH

About the role

The Customer Engineer I serves as the direct liaison with customers, installing, maintaining and upgrading Applied Materials equipment. The role uses digital analytics for troubleshooting and applies basic diagnostic techniques under guidance from senior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Senior Field Service Engineers to install, maintain and upgrade customer equipment.
• Use digital analytics and basic diagnostic techniques to assess and resolve technical issues.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems (training provided).
• Coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service.
• Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Associate degree, military technical training, field service experience, or trade certification.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn electrical and mechanical schematics.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving basic technical challenges.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport for travel.

Required skills

• Digital analytics for equipment troubleshooting.
• Basic diagnostic techniques.
• Knowledge of electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems.
• Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Use of hand tools and digital multimeters.
• Understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum and thermodynamics.
