Financial Planning Analyst

About the role

This role supports the business on financial planning, understanding business performance and decision making, and creates presentations for periodic financial reporting and forecasts. It sits within Assurant Japan, based in Tokyo.

Key responsibilities

• Improve the efficiency and quality of insights in financial and operational forecasting for Assurant Japan
• Develop forecasting models and reporting tools using advanced Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, EPA or similar tools
• Build analytical reporting that helps the business make informed, timely decisions
• Evaluate and implement best-in-class forecasting and reporting tools, including visualization, analytics and natural language queries
• Support annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting, feeding into monthly reporting and the Assurant International report
• Produce rolling FY reporting with actionable insights on trends, opportunities, risks and options for the CFO and country business heads
• Develop financial reporting dashboards and present alternative strategies to support business decisions
• Analyze segment performance, variances and customer priorities, and propose remedial actions
• Prepare monthly management reports for functional heads, including expense analysis, overruns and control recommendations
• Help prepare financial plans and targets, and support corporate actions such as capital injections and variance analysis

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in FP&A and/or accounting in a finance division
• Understanding of US GAAP
• Experience in a fast-paced multinational environment
• Fluent spoken, written and read English and Japanese
• Ability to communicate complex financial information simply to CFOs and business stakeholders
• Experience managing forecasts and budgets, and handling large volumes of financial data from multiple sources
• Ability to adapt to the cultural norms of the local team
• Preferred: insurance industry experience
