Head of Sales – Japan

About the role

Square is seeking a Head of Sales for Japan to build and rapidly scale its commercial business in‑market. This leader will accelerate revenue growth, increase market penetration, and create a high‑performing sales organization capable of winning at scale in one of the world’s most demanding commerce markets.

Key responsibilities

• Own overall revenue growth and market expansion strategy for Japan, driving aggressive plans across SMB, mid‑market, enterprise and strategic verticals.
• Build and scale a high‑performing channel and partner sales strategy, establishing relationships with resellers, ISVs and ecosystem players to expand reach.
• Lead a multi‑layered sales organization, fostering a culture of accountability, urgency and execution excellence while improving forecasting and productivity.
• Partner with Product, Marketing, Partnerships and Customer Success leaders to unlock new opportunities and influence regional and global strategy.
• Ensure alignment with global commercial strategy, collaborating across time zones and cultures to balance local market judgment with global standards.

Required profile

• 15+ years of sales and commercial leadership experience, with a proven record of scaling high‑growth businesses.
• Demonstrated ability to rapidly grow revenue and capture market share in highly competitive environments.
• Strong builder mentality, having created and scaled organizations, go‑to‑market motions and commercial infrastructure from the ground up.
• Experience developing and scaling channel sales and strategic partnerships in complex markets.
• Executive presence with the capability to influence cross‑functional and global stakeholders; fluency in Japanese and English preferred.
