Backcountry Rental and Operations Assistant

About the role

Join Rhythm's Backcountry Department in Niseko as a Seasonal Rental & Operations Assistant. You will support daily equipment rentals, prepare avalanche safety packs, and assist with backcountry logistics from mid‑November through April.

Key responsibilities

• Fit touring skis, snowboards, boots, bindings, skins and poles to guest specifications.
• Prepare and inspect avalanche packs, ensuring transceivers, probes and shovels are functional.
• Maintain guide radios, satellite communication tools, first‑aid kits and rescue equipment.
• Track equipment issue and return, cleaning and storing items for the next day.
• When rostered as Base Commander, monitor guide movements, record check‑ins and immediately escalate safety concerns.

Required profile

• Available for a seasonal contract (mid‑Nov to Apr) with 20‑40 hours per week.
• Comfortable working in winter backcountry conditions and handling physical equipment tasks.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety procedures.
• Effective communication skills for coordinating with guides and staff.

Required skills

• Equipment fitting for skis, snowboards and related gear.
• Avalanche pack assembly and battery checks.
• Operation of radios and satellite communication devices.
• First‑aid kit preparation and rescue equipment handling.
• Equipment inspection, cleaning and inventory tracking.
