Finance Director

About the role

The Finance Director will lead a small team in Tokyo, overseeing all core finance functions including accounting, cash flow, client settlements, reporting, payroll, and budgeting. You will work closely with the Managing Director on strategy and expansion, ensuring alignment with global finance practices.

Key responsibilities

• Overall control of financial aspects and provide strategic insight.
• Create and manage AXS Japan budget and forecasts.
• Lead consolidation, audits, tax, and statutory filings.
• Coordinate with VP Finance - APAC and global finance teams.
• Manage treasury, cashflow, and client settlements.
• Produce accurate monthly management accounts and oversee payroll.

Required profile

• CPA (Japan or US), ACA or CIMA preferred; SME desirable.
• Proven experience leading and managing a finance team.
• Strategic and analytical thinking with ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels.
• Self‑motivated, able to handle high pressure and critical decisions.
• Fluent native Japanese with conversational English.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with JD Edwards (desirable).
