Senior Consultant – Public Sector Customer Success

About the role

Appian is seeking a Senior Consultant to join its Customer Success Public Sector team in Tokyo. You will lead the delivery of AI‑powered process automation solutions for government agencies, guiding small engineering teams and acting as a trusted technical advisor.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end project delivery, defining, designing and implementing custom automation solutions on the Appian platform.
• Mentor and develop junior consultants, fostering technical excellence throughout fast‑paced implementations.
• Architect robust integrations, building data pipelines and APIs using REST, SOAP and JDBC.
• Design and launch sophisticated relational data models in production environments with advanced SQL.
• Collaborate in Agile teams—sprints, stand‑ups, pair programming—to deliver high‑value capabilities quickly.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics or a related technical field.
• 3+ years of hands‑on software development or technical implementation consulting experience.
• Proven leadership and mentoring experience with small post‑sale implementation teams.
• Fluent in Japanese and English.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% annually for customer engagements.

Required skills

• Object‑Oriented Programming (OOP).
• SQL and relational database design.
• REST, SOAP and JDBC integration techniques.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud.
• Familiarity with container technologies (e.g., Elastic Containers).
• Test‑Driven Development and automated testing practices.
• Understanding of Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning concepts.
