Strategy & Operations Lead - Japan

About the role

OpenAI is seeking a Strategy & Operations Lead to drive operational excellence across Japan. Based in Tokyo, the role works in a hybrid model (3 days in office) and bridges global leadership with regional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement Japan operating strategy aligned with APAC and global objectives.
• Drive execution across markets, adapting to local regulations and dynamics.
• Partner with global leadership to prioritize initiatives and allocate resources.
• Establish KPIs, reporting frameworks, and operating cadences.
• Build and optimize scalable processes across business lines.
• Identify operational gaps and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support market entry strategies and operational readiness for Japan.
• Lead and mentor a high‑performing regional operations team.

Required profile

• Significant experience leading regional or international operations in a fast‑scaling, complex environment.
• Strong strategic and operational judgment with ability to translate goals into execution plans.
• Proven track record building scalable operating systems, processes, metrics, and reporting frameworks.
• Excellent cross‑functional leadership and influencing skills.
• Experience supporting market expansion and regional growth initiatives.
• Strong people leadership and team‑building capabilities.
• Comfort operating in ambiguity and creating structure in fast‑moving settings.
