HR Generalist – Employee Relations (Tokyo)

About the role

Join Agoda’s Global Employee Relations Team in Japan as a Consultant, Employee Relations. You will work closely with Legal, People Services, HR Business Partners and senior management to support employees in challenging situations, identify trends and improve people‑management practices.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the subject matter expert on compliance and company policies, advising managers and employees.
• Coach and counsel managers on performance issues and misconduct cases.
• Support execution and tracking of disciplinary actions in line with Japanese labor law.
• Handle terminations with proper documentation to minimize labor claim risk.
• Conduct impartial investigations into grievances and identify trends for procedural improvement.
• Manage case timelines, stakeholder updates, and high‑quality documentation.
• Analyze performance and misconduct data to recommend policy revisions and training enhancements.
• Serve as HR Business Partner to a dedicated department, sharing actionable insights.
• Drive automation and improvements in processes such as performance management and off‑boarding.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Law or a related field.
• 6‑8 years of experience in Employee Relations or HR Business Partnering/Generalist roles.
• Strong knowledge of Japanese labor law and employee‑relations best practices.
• Excellent problem‑solving, judgment and decision‑making abilities.
• High attention to detail, ownership, reliability and ethical standards.
• Ability to manage ambiguity, change and competing priorities.
• Fluency in written and spoken Japanese and English.
